“Last year, Sony Ericsson took a break from its typical sleek candy bar handsets to introduce its first flip phone, the Z600, and truth be told, we were disappointed by its bulkiness and lack of style. Fortunately, the company cleaned up its act with the Sony Ericson Z500a cell phone, which sports a slimmer and more attractive design. The handset also boasts a VGA camera with video recording, a media player with support for streaming music and video, and solid call quality. But it’s not without its faults. For such a multimedia-oriented phone, the Sony Ericsson Z500a could use a better screen and more memory.

A lousy case and keypad design doom the Sony Ericsson Z500a cell phone, an otherwise decent, affordable multimedia phone which can also be used as an unusually fast laptop modem.
As for features, the Z500a cell phone supports MP3 ringtones and has two built-in Java games, a loop-based ringtone composer, AIM and e-mail clients, and room for about 83 VGA pictures. Games played fast enough, but the awful keypad made game-playing a chore rather than a joy.
Clear sound. Sharp camera. Insanely cheap for a fast EDGE modem.
The Z500a from Sony Ericsson is amazingly affordable for an EDGE camera phone, but the hard-to-press buttons negate those great features.
